The Coalwood Way - New Fall Book!
by Homer Hickam
Please pick up your copy in the Rectory for $6!
Book Discussion Moved to Friday, November 3, 2017 at 7:00 PM
Rectory Meeting Room

From the #1 bestselling author of October Sky comes this rich, unforgettable tale. With the same dazzling storytelling that distinguished his first memoir, Homer Hickam takes us deeper into the soul of his West Virginia hometown at a moment when its unique way of life is buffeted by forces of time and change.

It is fall 1959. Homer “Sonny” Hickam and his fellow Rocket Boys are in their senior year at Big Creek High, and the town of Coalwood finds itself at a painful crossroads.

The strains can be felt within the Hickam home, where Homer Sr. struggles to save the mine, and his wife, Elsie, is feeling increasingly isolated from both her family and the townspeople. Sonny, despite a blossoming relationship with a local girl, finds his own mood darkened by an unexplainable sadness.

Then, with the holidays approaching, trouble at the mine and the arrival of a beautiful young outsider bring unexpected changes in both the Hickam family and the town of Coalwood … as this luminous memoir moves toward its poignant conclusion.

MEN'S SPIRITUALITY--THAT MAN IS YOU

THAT MAN IS YOU! Begins September 16, 2017

Men get together weekly on Saturday mornings to share faith
and ideas on topics that they are interested in pursuing.

After an extended "summer break" that began shortly after Easter, we are about to launch a brand new semester of TMIY. The title for this fall's program is "The Revelation of the Father", and will focus on how we, as Catholic men, can improve relationships within our families while strengthening our faith and spiritual lives.

During the next thirteen weeks we will discover:

* The true dignity of the heart of a father.
* The four types of formation necessary for fathers to properly nurture their children and families.
* The parenting methods inspired by the saints and proven effective with the most difficult children.
* The challenges confronting men in their fatherhood and the means to overcome them.

ATTENTION: ALL WIVES, SISTERS, MOTHERS, DAUGHTERS AND WOMEN WHO CARE: Now is the time to reach out to the men who are important to you and your family. Encourage them to join us on this journey. They won't regret it!

Please mark your calendars for Saturday morning, September 16.

That Man is You!
meets on Saturday mornings at 6;30 am for breakfast in O'Connell Hall at St. George School. All adult men, 18 and older, are invited to join us. To learn more about this program, please contact Don Budny at (708) 429-1823; dbudny3@aol.com or Gary Hendzell at (708) 614-1734; ghendzell@msn.com.
